Fans had kept a close eye on production since its announcement, with Sheen teasing the production's start date on Twitter by dying his hair to match his character's. After years of development hell over movie and TV adaptations, and the passing of Pratchett, Amazon co-produced the adaptation with BBC Studios, releasing the series on Amazon Prime video in 2019. Good Omens is adapted from the novel written by both Gaiman and Terry Pratchett that was released in 1990, following the efforts of angel Aziraphale and demon Crowley as they attempt to avert the imminent apocalypse. Gaiman is returning to write and co-showrun, with Michael Sheen and David Tennant set to reprise their roles as Aziraphale and Crowley respectively.

Season 2 of the Amazon Prime series, based on the 1990 novel, was confirmed by Gaiman in June 2021.

Author and co-showrunner Neil Gaiman has confirmed filming has begun on the second season of Good Omens.
